A spokesperson for the Miango Youth Development Association, Nuhu Nga, has reported that a rainstorm wreaked havoc in Miango District of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. According toNuhu Nga, The Publicity Secretary of Miango Youth Development Association, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon, resulting in three injuries and significant damage to over 200 houses.
The affected structures include residential houses, a clinic, schools, shops, and livestock pens. Additionally, economic trees were uprooted, leaving many residents stranded. The storm also caused destruction to valuables such as documents, household products, cement, and other items.
Fortunately, no lives were lost, but three individuals sustained injuries and have been transported to the hospital for treatment. Currently, some affected individuals have sought refuge in the homes of neighbors.
The aftermath of the rainstorm has exacerbated the challenges faced by the Miango community, which has endured violent attacks and displacement of persons in recent years. In light of this, Nga urged the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Local Government Council to provide assistance to those affected.
Furthermore, he appealed to non-governmental organizations and well-meaning individuals to offer urgent aid to the affected persons, particularly as the rainy season intensifies.
