Foundation Urges Ogun Government to Bridge Healthcare Gap

The Adebiyi Habib Foundation has urged the Ogun State Government to enhance healthcare accessibility, particularly in remote and underserved regions. This appeal followed the foundation’s second Free Medical Outreach, which was held across several communities in the Yewa North Local Government Area.
The outreach provided medical assistance to over 300 individuals residing in towns such as Iboro/Joga, Imashi, Ayetoro, Ibeshe, Ishaga-Orile, Ijako-Orile, Koogo, and Sunwa.
During the event, the foundation’s founder, Adebiyi Habib, emphasized the importance of improved healthcare delivery in rural areas. He acknowledged the state’s ongoing efforts but stressed that they fall short in addressing the medical needs of these communities.
He pointed out that the outreach was initiated to support individuals who are unable to afford treatment due to financial hardship.
Habib noted that the foundation’s healthcare intervention aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 3, which seeks to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all.
He added that the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to addressing disparities in the healthcare system, especially in communities with limited access to basic health services.
Mosidat Abanigbe, the Project Director for the foundation, explained that the selected communities were chosen due to noticeable shortfalls in public healthcare provision.
She emphasized the urgency for government action in establishing fully equipped health centres staffed with trained professionals. According to her, such facilities would go a long way in meeting the health needs of rural populations.
Akinola Akinsowon, the Executive Director, described the outreach as a response to the visible healthcare challenges affecting many residents.
He explained that while government initiatives exist, they do not fully cover the needs of every citizen, which makes the intervention of private organisations crucial. He also mentioned that the foundation, which was launched three years ago, has steadily expanded its operations and aims to reach the entire Ogun West Senatorial District within the next two years.
Residents who took part in the outreach expressed gratitude, noting that the event offered access to medical services such as consultations, screenings, and free medications.
One of the beneficiaries remarked that the programme had encouraged community members to take their health more seriously, as it provided an opportunity to interact directly with medical professionals.
