Nigeria Customs Seize N770 Million Contraband, Generate N92 Million Revenue in Ogun State

The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Area Command, Idiroko, intercepted contraband with a duty paid value of N770,666,237 between April and June. Comptroller James Ojo disclosed this during a briefing in Abeokuta on Monday.
The command also reported generating N92,369,227 in revenue during the same period, marking a 52.46% increase from the previous year’s N53,983,622. It exceeded the June 2024 monthly revenue target by 77.86%.
Seized items included 219 sacks and 1,725 parcels of cannabis sativa, 940 rounds of live ammunition, 44,466 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, 2,227 pieces of foreign-used pneumatic tyres, and 64 bales and 222 sacks of used clothes. Other intercepted goods comprised 2,947 cartons of frozen poultry products, 7,015 bags of foreign parboiled rice, vehicles, motorcycles, and used shoes.
Ojo emphasized that these seizures represented the command’s commitment to combating smuggling, safeguarding public health and safety, and protecting Nigeria’s economy and borders.
