Peter Obi Donates N10 Million to Grimard College of Nursing Sciences in Kogi State

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate 2023, underscored his dedication to healthcare and education by donating N10 million to the Grimard College of Nursing Sciences in Anyigba, Kogi State. This gesture took place during his visit to the institution on Monday.

In a statement released via X on Tuesday, Obi emphasized the pivotal role of Grimard College in Nigeria’s primary healthcare sector, noting, ““Grimard College of Nursing Sciences, Kogi State has continued to play a very critical role in the primary healthcare sector of the nation through its training and nurturing of healthcare professionals who make a difference in society.”

The former Anambra State governor reiterated his longstanding advocacy for increased investments in health and education, stating, “I have consistently urged governments at all levels to allocate more resources to health and education, and I continue to call on donor agencies to do the same.”

Highlighting the importance of nursing education, Obi remarked, “I am particularly concerned about the training of nurses, as they are central to our primary healthcare delivery.”

He cautioned against a potential shortage of nurses and urged proactive measures, saying, “Given the warnings about an impending severe shortage of nurses, we must be proactive in investing in their training. This will not only benefit our domestic health sector but also enable us to contribute more to the global healthcare community.”

Obi expressed gratitude to the management and staff of the college for their commitment to training healthcare professionals and encouraged nursing students to stay focused on their studies.

“Our commitment remains to build a New Nigeria which offers Nigerians access to good healthcare and educational opportunities,” Obi concluded.
