Army Chief Urges Troops to Intensify Efforts Against Insecurity

Written by on May 24, 2024

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has called on Nigerian troops to enhance their efforts in protecting the nation, particularly in combating insecurity.

During his operational maiden visit to the headquarters of the 35 Artillery Brigade at Alamala Barracks in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Thursday, Lagbaja addressed the troops and acknowledged the challenging and difficult conditions under which they operate. He emphasized the need for the soldiers to meet the high demands of their duties.

Lagbaja assured the troops that the government is committed to their welfare, as evidenced by the investments in their operations and well-being. He pledged that the army’s headquarters would address some of the challenges faced by the troops, including the poor state of accommodation, medical facilities, lack of a soldiers’ club, and electricity issues.

“We have collated all these issues and the relevant department at the army’s headquarters will act on them,” Lagbaja said.

He highlighted the ongoing transformation within the army, backed by the president and the current government. The renovations in the barracks are a result of government funding. He also mentioned that the long-standing issue of Group Life Assurance, which affected 6,400 families between 2012 and 2022, is currently being resolved.

“The government has your interest at heart,” Lagbaja affirmed, adding, “To whom much is given, much is expected. I encourage you to redouble your efforts in gratitude for the significant investment of taxpayers’ money.”

He urged the troops to give their best in every task despite the challenges they face, reinforcing the commitment to creating a befitting working environment for them.
