These schools now serve 4,588 students, including 2,310 girls and 2,278 boys. “We have also improved many existing schools, completing over 1,500 projects that include building, renovating, and providing new furniture,” he stated.
Emphasizing the importance of security, Sanwo-Olu noted that public schools are now equipped with fences, CCTV cameras, and other safety measures. He highlighted the close collaboration with security agencies to maintain a safe environment for students.
Since May 2023, over 2,000 new teachers specializing in STEM, History, Yoruba, French, and Geography have been hired. Additionally, a Digital Situation Room has been established to monitor school performance and ensure smooth operations.
Sanwo-Olu praised partnerships with companies such as Nigerdock and Port and Terminal Multi-Services Limited (PTML), which have donated classrooms and other resources. “These partnerships help us ensure you get the best education possible,” he added.
The governor encouraged children to dream big and pursue their goals, assuring them of his administration’s dedication to the mantra, “No Child Is Left Behind.” He affirmed the state government’s commitment to providing an environment conducive to learning and skill development.
Sanwo-Olu stressed the ongoing efforts to equip children with the necessary tools and knowledge for future success. “We are also helping you develop skills for the future, providing paths to success based on what you’re good at,” he noted.
The celebration of Children’s Day included recognizing students who have excelled in various competitions. The theme for 2024, “Advocate for Children: Policies & Actions that Protect and Support Children’s Well-being,” encourages everyone to speak up, take action, and ensure children’s safety and happiness.
Commissioner Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun praised the administration’s investment in education and recognized the critical role of teachers in mentoring students. “Your immense support for the education sector and the mileage covered are legendary,” he said, urging children to utilize the resources provided effectively.
