Sanusi Arrives in Kano to Receive Appointment Letter Today

The reinstated Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido, has arrived at the Kano State Government House to collect his letter of appointment before beginning his duties, Daily Trust reports.

A homecoming reception was held in honor of the new first-class Emir on Thursday evening.

On Friday morning, Lamido is scheduled to participate in a mini-durbar ceremony at the Africa House in the Kano Government House at 10 a.m. He will then proceed to the Nassarawa Emir’s palace.

Later, the Emir will lead the Friday Muslim Jumat prayers at the Kano Central Mosque located at the palace in Kofar Kudu.

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State reappointed Lamido as the Emir of Kano on Thursday, four years after he was dethroned by former governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

Additionally, the governor removed five emirs appointed by Ganduje and gave them a 48-hour deadline to vacate their official residences and palaces. They were instructed to hand over their responsibilities to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

In a related development, the Federal High Court in Kano issued an order preventing the Kano State Government from implementing the Kano State Emirate Council Repeal Law. Justice Mohammed Liman granted this order following an application by Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba of the Kano Emirate.

The lawsuit regarding the Emir’s position lists the Kano State Government, the House of Assembly, the Speaker, the Attorney-General, the Commissioner of Police, the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the State Security Service as respondents.
