Written by Deborah Oyinloye on April 23, 2024
In a bid to enhance food security in Bayelsa State, the Civil Service Commission has sanctioned a new initiative whereby civil servants will engage in farming activities for two days each week, reducing their workdays to three.
The directive, outlined in a circular signed by the Bayelsa State Head of Service, Biobelemoye Charles-Onyeama, aims to encourage agricultural practices among civil servants and contribute to the state’s food sustainability efforts.
Governor Douye Diri’s approval of this measure impacts civil servants from Grade level 14 and below, with exceptions made for teachers, medical personnel, and other essential service providers.
The initiative, slated to commence on April 29, 2024, for a duration of six months, underscores the government’s commitment to promoting agriculture and ensuring food self-sufficiency in Bayelsa State.
