President Bola Tinubu has announced significant changes in leadership positions within key health agencies, aiming to elevate standards and enhance healthcare delivery across Nigeria. Here’s the full list of appointments:
National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC):
– Dr. Mansur Kabir appointed as Chairman of the board
– Prof. Moji Adeyeye reappointed as Chief Executive Officer
National Blood Service Commission (NBSC):
– Prof. Abba Zubairu named as board chairperson
– Dr. Saleh Yuguda appointed as CEO
Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN):
– Prof. Afolabi Lesi designated as board chairperson
– Dr. Fatima Kyari appointed as CEO
Pharmacy Council of Nigeria:
– Wasilat Giwa selected as board chairperson
– Ibrahim Ahmed appointed as CEO
Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria:
– Dr. Babajide Salako named as Board Chairperson
– Dr. Tosan Erhabor appointed as CEO
Additionally, President Tinubu appointed:
– Prof. Adamu Bakari as Chief Medical Director of Moddibo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola, Adamawa State
– Prof. Reuben Eifediyi as Chief Medical Director of the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua, Edo State
The newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Idris, brings a wealth of experience, having served as the Commissioner for Health in Lagos State and as the Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Ministry of Health.
Prof. Abba Zubairu, the newly appointed Chairperson of the National Blood Service Commission (NBSC), has a distinguished career, including serving as the Medical Director of the Mayo Clinic in the United States.
Dr. Fatima Kyari, the newly appointed CEO of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), is an accomplished ophthalmologist and Fellow of the Nigeria Academy of Medicine.
President Tinubu expects the new leadership to raise healthcare standards and implement new policy frameworks under the guidance of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Muhammad Pate, to address historical underperformance in the health sector.
