Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has announced plans to immortalize the late Dr. Herbert Wigwe, former Group Managing Director and CEO of Access Holdings, for his significant contributions to the state’s development. Governor Diri made this declaration during the inauguration ceremony of sections two and three of the 22-kilometre Yenagoa Outer Ring Road in Yenagoa on Wednesday.

According to Governor Diri, Dr. Wigwe played a pivotal role in the completion of the road project, and as such, his administration will consider naming the road after the esteemed banker and businessman. The late Dr. Wigwe, along with his wife, son, and former Group Chairman of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Abimola Ogunbanjo, tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash in the United States last Friday.

During the inauguration event, Governor Diri expressed his commitment to consulting with elders and stakeholders in Bayelsa State to finalize the decision to immortalize Dr. Wigwe. He highlighted the significance of completing the Yenagoa Outer Ring Road, constructed by Lubrik, and assured that the remaining part of the dual carriageway would be completed during his second term in office.

Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State, who attended the ceremony, commended Governor Diri for his electoral victory and second-term inauguration, affirming it as a testament to the people’s support for his administration.

Moses Teibowei, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, emphasized the importance of the completed sections of the Ring Road, which now spans from Okarki to Imiringi Road, contributing to the overall connectivity and development of Bayelsa State.

The decision to honour Dr. Herbert Wigwe by naming the Yenagoa Ring Road after him reflects the profound impact of his legacy on the state’s infrastructure and development.
