The ceremony, held at the Ikeja Mega Station and presided over by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was attended by several dignitaries, including governors, former governors, diplomats, and prominent industrialists.
The Red Rail Line spans 37 kilometres with 13 stations, strategically integrating key bus terminals across Lagos, including Oyingbo, Yaba, Oshodi, Ikeja, Ebute Metta, Iju, and Iddo, with direct connections to the international and domestic wings of the Murtala Muhammed Airport.
With a projected capacity to transport 1.1 million passengers daily upon full operation, the Red Line is poised to revolutionize public transportation in Lagos, offering commuters a convenient and efficient mode of travel.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the project’s transformative impact, stating, “Embarking on the Lagos Mass Rail Transit (LMRT) project is more than just enhancing transit; it’s about weaving the fabric of our city into a tighter, more connected community. Every track laid, every station built, brings us closer to a Lagos where distance no longer dictates destiny.”
