Tinubu Approves Posthumous National Honours for Slain Soldiers, Vows Befitting Burial

President Bola Tinubu has granted posthumous national honours and ensured a dignified burial for the 17 soldiers who tragically lost their lives during a peacekeeping mission in Delta State. The announcement was made during the breaking of the Ramadan fast, in the presence of Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and House leadership.
Tinubu extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen heroes, affirming that their sacrifices for Nigeria will never be forgotten. He emphasized the need to honour the soldiers’ bravery and dedication by providing them with a respectful burial and national recognition.
Addressing the solemn occasion, Tinubu highlighted the savage manner in which the soldiers met their demise while responding to distress calls. He urged solidarity and sympathy for the fallen soldiers, stressing the significance of commemorating their noble sacrifices for the nation.
The tragic incident occurred during a mission to resolve clashes between two communities in Delta State, where 16 Nigerian soldiers were ambushed and killed. The Nigerian Army condemned the act and vowed to apprehend the perpetrators, emphasizing the importance of justice and accountability.
The Defence headquarters released the names of the slain soldiers, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the military’s commitment to ensuring the culprits face consequences for their actions.
In response to the call for unity and support, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas emphasized the virtues of forgiveness, generosity, and prayer during Ramadan. He urged the nation to come together in solidarity and extend support to President Tinubu’s leadership.
Reflecting on the synergy between the executive and legislature, Speaker Abbas affirmed the House’s unwavering support for the President and his policies, emphasizing their commitment to national progress and cooperation.
