Seven Killed, 15 Injured in Oyo Road Accident

Seven individuals lost their lives and 15 others sustained injuries in a road accident at Ijaye on the Ibadan/Iseyin Road. This was confirmed by Tunde Adewale, the Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo State Sector Command, during a briefing at the state Sector Command office in Eleyele, Ibadan, on Friday.

Adewale stated that the accident occurred on Thursday, shortly after Ijaye town in the Akinyele Local Government Area of the state. The collision involved two commercial vehicles: a Nissan bus with the number plate SEY 254 XY and a Mazda bus with the number plate LGB 343 XA, both white in color. The vehicles were carrying a total of 22 occupants at the time of the incident.

According to Adewale, the accident involved eight male adults, 12 female adults, and two children. He further detailed that the fatalities included five male adults, one female adult, and one female child.

The DCC attributed the accident to a head-on collision that occurred during a heavy downpour. He reported that the injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital, while the deceased have been transported to the morgue.

“The accident involved 22 people. Seven died and 15 were injured. Both vehicles involved were commercial. They collided head-on due to heavy rain shortly after Ijaye town. It involved a Nissan commercial bus with registration number SEY 254 XY and a Mazda commercial bus with registration number LGB 343 XA. Five male adults, one female adult, and one female child all died in the accident,” Adewale explained.

Adewale urged motorists to always adhere to traffic rules and regulations and to pay close attention to traffic warnings to prevent such tragic incidents.

Investigations by our correspondent revealed that four of the seven deceased have been claimed by their families, while the remaining three bodies are still at the mortuary.
