The Scripture Union Nigeria issued a fervent plea on Saturday, urging the Federal Government, lawmakers at all levels, and Christian bodies to stand firm against the legalization of lesbianism and bisexuality.
At a press conference held at the union’s headquarters in Samonda, Ibadan, the National Chairman, Wilfred Onu, alongside the General Director, Uwem Udoh, emphasized the potential dangers posed by such legislation to global society.
Onu stressed, “We are deeply concerned about the seeming acceptance of these unbiblical ideas, contrary to the clear admonitions in the Holy Bible, and in disregard of legal statutes such as the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act, 2014.”
He continued, “The promotion of this ideology by some religious and political leaders, especially in the Western World, is alarming. We can no longer keep silent and allow this immoral movement to destroy the fabric of our societal decency and values.”
“As a union rooted in Biblical principles, we reaffirm our dedication to promoting traditional Christian values. We reject the LGBTQ+ ideology as unbiblical, immoral, and detrimental to human decency,” Onu added.
The Scripture Union called on the entire Christian community to advocate for God’s love and redemption while firmly rejecting ideologies that contradict Biblical teachings.
“We call on all Christians and true lovers of humanity to defend the sanctity of family life and society,” Onu declared. “The union vehemently opposes the harmful agenda of those promoting these ideologies.”
Furthermore, as a union entrusted with the welfare of children, youths, and families, Scripture Union pledged to safeguard innocence from harmful influences and advocate for the preservation of traditional family values and marriage as defined in the Scriptures.
This declaration underscores the union’s commitment to upholding Biblical principles and safeguarding societal morality in the face of evolving social challenges.
