Spanish rescue teams searched flooded garages and car parks in Valencia on Monday to locate more victims after catastrophic floods claimed 217 lives.
The disaster, one of Spain’s deadliest in decades, has ignited public outrage, leading to a tense scene on Sunday where angry crowds hurled mud and shouted at King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
Authorities have come under scrutiny as experts questioned the speed and effectiveness of the warning systems. In the hardest-hit areas, volunteers were first to arrive with food, water, and emergency supplies, with residents expressing frustration at what they called a slow official response.
The floods, attributed to worsening climate conditions, have prompted environmental advocates to demand stronger action on climate change as Spain braces for further extreme weather events.
