Russian President Vladimir Putin was sworn into office at a lavish Kremlin ceremony for a record-breaking fifth term, consolidating his power with a fresh mandate secured in March’s presidential elections, which lacked significant opposition.
In his inauguration speech, Putin expressed confidence that Russia would emerge victorious and stronger from the current challenges it faces. Addressing an audience of around 2,500 officials and military leaders, Putin emphasized unity and resilience, stating, “Together we will overcome all obstacles, achieve everything we have planned, and together we will win.”
Acknowledging the honor, responsibility, and sacred duty of the presidency, Putin pledged to ensure sustained and stable development, as well as the unity and independence of the country. He expressed gratitude to the soldiers involved in the military operation in Ukraine, which Russia terms a “special military operation.”
During the ceremony held in the Kremlin’s gilded St Andrew’s Hall, Putin evoked Russia’s thousand-year history, emphasizing the nation’s determination to determine its fate independently. He also signaled readiness for dialogue with Western states on questions of security and strategic stability, but emphasized the need for equal terms and mutual respect for each other’s interests.
