Written by Deborah Oyinloye on March 5, 2024
President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Abuja following a two-day official visit to the State of Qatar, marking another significant diplomatic engagement for Nigeria’s leadership.
Tinubu’s return aboard the presidential jet, NAF 001, was greeted by top government officials’ warm reception at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 7 pm on Monday.
Among those present to welcome the President were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, APC Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, and DSS Director-General Yusuf Bichi, among others.
During his visit, Tinubu engaged in a series of significant activities aimed at bolstering bilateral ties between Nigeria and Qatar. He emphasized the importance of accurately documenting a nation’s history and cultural heritage during a visit to Qatar’s National Museum, emphasizing the significance of preserving cultural evolution and challenges.
Furthermore, President Tinubu witnessed the signing of seven landmark agreements between Nigeria and Qatar, covering education, employment regulation, business collaboration, youth and sports, tourism, and combating illicit trade. These agreements underscore the commitment to deepen cooperation and partnership between the two nations.
At the Nigeria-Qatar Business and Investment Forum, Tinubu reassured the international business community of Nigeria’s readiness for serious business, pledging to tackle bureaucratic bottlenecks and corruption that hindered ease of doing business. He urged Qatari investors to report any instances of bribery, affirming his administration’s determination to enhance investor confidence and promote profitable and legitimate enterprises.
President Tinubu’s visit to Qatar marks his 16th foreign destination since assuming office, highlighting Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations and fostering economic partnerships on the global stage.
