Written by Jerry Alomatu on August 14, 2024
The Nigerian Solidarity Support Fund (NSSF) has launched the “Ignite Campaign,” an initiative aimed at training and mobilizing one million young Nigerians as healthcare advocates.
The campaign, which began on July 15 and will run for six months, has already trained 3,000 youths. This effort is part of NSSF’s broader plan to empower one million youths in healthcare advocacy by 2029.
Dr. Fejiro Nwoko, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NSSF, described the Ignite Campaign as a crucial element in improving public health in Nigeria. The training of 3,000 young Nigerians is seen as a step toward addressing the urgent need for healthcare advocacy and setting the stage for long-term improvements.
The NSSF’s experience during the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted significant gaps in Nigeria’s public healthcare system. The organization aims to offer young Nigerians a chance to contribute to healthcare improvements through advocacy.
The campaign builds on the success of previous Wenaija events, aiming to create a community of young health advocates. It will provide peer mentorship and work to bridge the gap between awareness and action, addressing youth apathy in healthcare and sectoral challenges.
NSSF’s strategy is focused on empowering young advocates to drive positive change in their communities. The Ignite Campaign aspires to inspire a movement of young Nigerians dedicated to enhancing healthcare access and outcomes.
