The Taraba State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is set to commend and promote four mobile police officers for their exemplary act of integrity in refusing a N8.5 million bribe from a suspected bandit. During a routine stop-and-search operation, the officers apprehended the suspected bandit and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to fighting corruption by rejecting the bribe offered to them.

The State Commissioner of Police, David Iloyalonomo, personally commended and rewarded the officers at the Taraba State Police Command Headquarters, highlighting their dedication to upholding the values of the Nigeria Police Force. Speaking to journalists, one of the officers involved in the arrest, Ngamarju Gambo, emphasized their determination to combat corruption and maintain peace in the country, reaffirming that such unethical practices have no place within the police force.

Iloyalonomo expressed his intention to recommend the officers for promotion and national recognition to Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, citing their exceptional conduct as deserving of commendation.

The four mobile police officers, identified as Inspr Difference Tih, Inspr Ngamarju Gambo, Inspr Usman Haruna, and Cpl Zarudeen Mamuda, displayed professional intuition during the patrol duty, leading to the interception and arrest of the suspect. Upon questioning, the suspect and his companions failed to provide satisfactory explanations, prompting the officers to search the vehicle, resulting in the recovery of the bribe money. Despite the substantial sum offered as a bribe for the suspect’s freedom, the officers steadfastly upheld their integrity and refused the unlawful inducement.

The suspect, along with his accomplices, is assisting the police in an ongoing investigation into past kidnappings, with the police commissioner affirming their commitment to ensuring justice is served. Once the investigations are concluded, the suspect and his associates will face charges in court for multiple offences, including kidnapping, banditry, and attempting to bribe a law enforcement officer.

The commendable actions of these officers serve as a testament to the professionalism and integrity of the Nigeria Police Force, inspiring confidence in the public and reaffirming the commitment to upholding the rule of law.
