Troops operating under Operation Hadin Kai successfully neutralized 16 fighters from the ISWAP/Boko Haram factions during a coordinated strike early Friday in Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State.
The Nigerian Army made this known via its official X account, stating that the confrontation occurred around 1 a.m. when the insurgents were detected and quickly engaged through sustained indirect fire.
“The attack was directed at the Brigade’s position, prompting immediate air support to bolster the response from ground troops,” the statement read.
The joint efforts of air and land forces reportedly overwhelmed the militants during nearly two hours of fierce combat, ultimately forcing them to flee.
According to the Army, 16 insurgents were confirmed dead, while a pursuit operation was launched to track down those who escaped.
An ammunition depot sustained damage in the firefight but was quickly secured, preventing further escalation. The Army reaffirmed its resolve to maintain pressure on terrorist networks in the region and ensure long-term stability across Nigeria’s North East.
