Nigeria secured a spot in the final of the IHF Trophy Africa men’s continental phase after a hard-fought 44-33 win over Cameroon on Tuesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The defending champions, under coach Emeka Nnamani, dominated from the start, overcoming a strong Cameroonian defense. Despite a determined challenge from their opponents, Nigeria led 22-15 at halftime, with left-back Christian Bolaji playing a key role in the second half.
Bolaji continued to dictate play, scoring vital goals from the 9-meter line and wings to seal the victory. Foloki, despite sustaining an injury in the match’s final minutes, was named the Most Valuable Player.
Coach Nnamani expressed pride in his team’s performance, stating, “I am very excited that we did enough to defeat Cameroon in the semi-final. I want to praise the boys for doing everything humanly possible and fighting hard against Cameroon. Now we will make sure we do our best in the final to qualify for the intercontinental phase.”
Nigeria will face Guinea in the final on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Nigeria time.
