NELFUND Postpones Student Loan Applications for State Institutions by 14 Days
Written by Jerry Alomatu on June 25, 2024
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced a 14-day delay in the application process for student loans for state institutions, citing insufficient data submissions from several state-owned institutions. The announcement, made on Tuesday, comes in response to the lack of required student data and fee information uploaded to the NELFUND Student Verification System.
According to NELFUND, only a small number of state-owned institutions have completed the necessary data submission. Specifically, only 20 out of 48 state universities, 12 out of 54 state colleges, and 2 out of 49 state polytechnics have successfully provided the required information.
The agency highlighted the challenges posed by these incomplete submissions, emphasizing the need for a seamless and accurate verification process for student loan applicants. The initial application window, which was set to open on June 25, 2024, has been rescheduled to July 10, 2024.
The extension aims to give state institutions additional time to meet the data submission requirements, ensuring that their students can benefit from the Federal Government’s student loan scheme. NELFUND stressed the importance of providing complete and accurate information, including JAMB numbers, matriculation numbers, admission numbers, full names, level, faculties, departments, program duration, fees, and gender of all eligible students.
Incomplete or inaccurate data submissions could lead to application delays and potential disqualification for affected students. NELFUND urged all state institutions to expedite their data submission processes and ensure the accuracy of the information provided. Institutions failing to meet the revised deadline risk disadvantaging their students who rely on these loans to support their education.
