Lagos Task Force Confiscates 128 Motorcycles in Ongoing Crackdown

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, also known as the Lagos Task Force, has seized 128 motorcycles in recent operations across various parts of the state.

The operation is part of the agency’s ongoing crackdown on the illegal operation of commercial motorcycles in areas where they are banned. Spokesperson for the task force, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, confirmed that the motorcycles were impounded during raids in Ikorodu, Ikotun, Berger, and several other locations within the state.

Abdulraheem emphasized that both riders and passengers would face prosecution if arrested. “The Lagos State Task Force continues to enforce the ban on commercial motorcycles (okadas) in restricted areas, with recent operations carried out in Ikorodu, Ikotun, Berger, and other parts of Lagos,” Abdulraheem said.

The Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, CSP Adetayo Akerele, reiterated the agency’s firm stance against the illegal use of motorcycles in restricted areas. “Both the riders and passengers found violating the ban will be prosecuted. Passengers on okadas are just as guilty as the riders, and if caught, they will face the full force of the law,” Akerele warned.

Abdulraheem also stated that the impounded motorcycles would be forfeited to the state government. “All the 128 impounded motorcycles from various locations will be forfeited to the state government through the court,” he confirmed. “The Lagos State Task Force remains committed to ensuring the safety of our roads and the well-being of all Lagos residents.”

He called on residents to comply with the regulations, stressing that the enforcement is aimed at protecting lives and property. “We urge residents to adhere to the rules and regulations, as these actions are being taken for the safety of all Lagosians,” Abdulraheem concluded.

This enforcement follows a similar operation in early November, where 70 motorcycles were confiscated for violating the commercial motorcycle ban. The Lagos Task Force has vowed to continue its operations until full compliance with the law is achieved.
