Jamal Simmons Calls for President Biden to Resign, Advocates for Kamala Harris to Assume Presidency

Jamal Simmons, former communications director for Vice President Kamala Harris, has urged President Joe Biden to step down, enabling Harris to become the first female president of the United States. Speaking on CNN’s State of the Union, Simmons lauded Biden’s accomplishments: “Joe Biden’s been a phenomenal president; he’s lived up to so many of the promises he’s made. There’s one promise left that he could fulfill, being a transitional figure.”
Simmons proposed that Biden resign within the next 30 days, positioning Harris as the 47th President. He argued this move would strategically counter former President Donald Trump, who recently defeated Harris in the 2024 presidential election by winning pivotal swing states such as Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
Trump’s victory sets the stage for his return to the White House in January 2025. Meanwhile, Simmons emphasized that Biden’s resignation could set a historic precedent: “It’d turn tables on Trump, keep Kamala from presiding over January 6, and make it easier for the next woman to run,” he stated.
Pressed by CNN host Dana Bash on Harris’ potential Supreme Court nomination, Simmons reiterated that a presidency would better fulfill Biden’s role as a transitional leader, disrupt Trump’s agenda, and lighten the path for future female leaders.
