A residential building in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State collapsed early Monday, injuring four people, following heavy rainfall that began on Sunday evening and lasted for several hours.
The house, located near Government College in Riyom, caved in while its occupants were asleep. According to a resident, Dusu Judith, the injured victims, mostly children, are currently receiving medical treatment.
Judith explained, “The people were sleeping in their house last night when the building caved in. Luckily, no death was recorded but four persons were injured.”
Another resident, Bot Rwang, described the incident as shocking, expressing relief that the family members escaped unharmed despite the building’s complete collapse. “It is God who saved them because it is shocking how they escaped looking at the structure which collapsed completely with the debris on the ground,” Rwang said.
The state has experienced several building collapses recently, with experts pointing to poor construction materials, inadequate workmanship, and corruption as contributing factors.
