Gas Explosion Claims Two Lives, Injures Several in Lagos

A gas explosion rocked the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos on Tuesday evening, claiming the lives of two individuals and injuring several others. This unfortunate event follows closely on the heels of a similar explosion just one week ago in the densely populated Ajegunle area, which left numerous individuals with severe burns.

According to reports, the explosion originated from a gas retail shop situated in Abule Folly, triggering a fire that quickly spread to nearby shops and caused extensive damage to property.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the incident, providing details of the casualties and damage incurred. “The explosion resulted in the deaths of two individuals, including the shipowner’s younger sister and a male customer. Three others were injured and are receiving medical attention at a nearby hospital. Four shops were completely destroyed in the blaze.”

He further stated, “The injured victims are undergoing treatment, while the bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to the morgue for preservation. Emergency responders, including firefighters and other agencies, promptly arrived at the scene to provide assistance and contain the situation.”

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks associated with gas-related activities and the importance of adhering to stringent safety measures. As investigations into the cause of the explosion continue, authorities are emphasizing the need for strict compliance with safety regulations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
