FG Cautions Abuja Car Dealer Over Mocking Remarks About Civil Servants

Written by on June 2, 2025

The Federal Government has issued a warning to Abuja-based automobile dealer, Alamin Sarkinmota, over promotional content perceived as demeaning to Nigerian civil servants.

The caution followed the release of an advert video in which Sarkinmota showcased a luxury 2023 Mercedes-Benz C300 equipped with Artificial Intelligence features, while insinuating that civil servants could not afford such a vehicle.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), in a statement signed by its Director-General, Lanre Issa-Onilu, expressed concern over the message conveyed in the video, describing it as insensitive and inappropriate especially at a time when many Nigerians are facing economic hardship.

The agency noted that the advert, which features an AI response implying civil servants might only afford the car decades from now, contributes to a culture that prioritizes materialism over hard work and integrity.

The NOA emphasized that civil servants play a critical role in the functioning of the country and should be treated with respect.

In response to public feedback about the video, the agency called on the auto dealer to be more considerate in his promotional content, cautioning against making statements that could undermine public service or cause social discontent.

Sarkinmota, who is known for showcasing high-end vehicles and often making jest of public sector workers’ purchasing power, was reminded of the importance of promoting products in a manner that supports shared national values and mutual respect.
