Father Sentenced to Six Months for Impersonation in UTME Exam

Written by on November 4, 2024

A man known as ‘Professor’ Jide Josiah Jisos has been sentenced to six months in prison by the Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, after attempting to impersonate an examination official during the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to assist his daughter. The ruling was made by Chief Magistrate Honourable Justice Folashade Oyekan on October 24, 2024.

Jisos was caught by officials from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) while he was at Brix Academy in Abuja, monitoring the UTME. As detailed in a statement from JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, Jisos misrepresented himself as a representative of a non-governmental organization involved in the examination process. His deception was uncovered when he was questioned by the leader of the monitoring team about his role.

“However, his deception was uncovered when he was questioned by the leader of the monitoring team in the examination hall, who asked him to clarify his purpose,” the statement noted. Unable to justify his presence, Jisos was arrested and subsequently handed over to security personnel for further investigation. During interrogation, he confessed that he had no affiliation with any NGO and was present solely to assist his daughter in taking the 2019 UTME.

The Chief Magistrate found Jisos guilty of a one-count charge of impersonation, resulting in a six-month prison sentence or an option to pay a fine of N100,000. The statement did not specify the date of the judgment.
