EFCC Presents Additional Evidence in $9.6bn Scam Case Against P&ID Director

Written by on March 12, 2024

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has submitted further evidence against MICAD Project City Services Limited and James Nolan, a Director of Process and Industrial Development Limited, in the ongoing $9.6 billion scam case. This development was disclosed by EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.

The criminal proceedings are linked to the controversial Gas Supply Processing Agreement between Process and Industrial Development and the Nigerian Federal Government, which resulted in a $11 billion award to P&ID. However, a London arbitration court overturned this award in October, citing fraudulent procurement of the contract.

MICAD Project City Services Limited and James Nolan are facing 20 counts, including obtaining money by false pretences, money laundering, and criminal conversion of proceeds amounting to N151,394,328.00.

In February, Interpol announced the arrest of Nolan in Italy, following his evasion of bail in Nigeria in connection with the P&ID scandal.

During the recent court session, the EFCC’s prosecution counsel, Bala Sanga, informed Justice Nora Egwuatu that additional evidence had been filed on February 20, 2024. The defence counsel, Micheal Ajara, confirmed receipt of the evidence.

The third prosecution witness, lawyer Nnedimma Eyisi, testified about conversations with James Nolan regarding his role as Director of MICAD, providing insights into the case’s intricacies.

The proceedings mark a significant step in the legal battle against corruption and fraudulent practices, signalling the EFCC’s commitment to upholding justice and accountability in Nigeria.
