Caleb University Holds COLAW’s 2nd Annual Dinner

The College of Law, Caleb University, Lagos, under the Chairmanship of Honourable Justice Kazeem Alogba, the Chief Judge of Lagos State, holds her 2nd Annual Law Dinner, themed ‘Igniting the Torch of Excellence: Passing the Flame to Budding Lawyers’, on 19th March 2024, at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island. The gathering included the students of the College, legal luminaries, solicitors, academics, and other professionals in a unique atmosphere.

Honourable Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba, the Chief Judge of Lagos State, led other distinguished legal community members and the principal officers of the university in a procession, at the start of the second edition of the Law Dinner of the Institution. Some of the distinguished legal members in attendance are Hon. Justice O.A. Ipaye (Mrs.), Mr Moyo Onigbanjo, SAN, Hon. Justice O. J Awope, Mr Bisi Makanjuola, and others.

The dinner lecture was given by Mr Moyo Onigbanjo (SAN), with a theme titled, Igniting the Torch of Excellence: Passing the Flame to Budding Lawyers. There, he commended the efforts of the University in trying to produce well-grounded graduates who can thrive in all facets of life globally. He further encouraged the students by describing two people who despite their differences, who didn’t despair, nor give up in the law school; Destiny Ogedengbe and Gani Fawehinmi.

Hon. Justice Kazeem Olanrewaju Alogba, the Chief Judge of Lagos State, likewise commended the efforts of the College in bringing “the gown nearer the town”. According to him, the legal profession as a community is lacking the ethics of the profession because many have not been exposed to the town before the gown.

The event was packaged to provide not just a platform for training the students in the basic etiquettes of the profession, but also an avenue to interact with revered members of the Bar and Bench, and to inculcate and imbibe the habit of learned gentlemen. It was also an evening of celebration where outstanding scholarship and achievements were rewarded, celebrated and honoured.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Nosa Owens-Ibie, noted that the packaging of the event affirms the premium Caleb University places on the Law programme, which is fast emerging as a model of legal education in Nigeria with unimaginable potential.

Professor Foluke Dada, Dean of the College of Law, emphasized that the College is an aspiring College of Law in metropolitan Lagos with the vision to prepare outstanding lawyers to serve their local, national, and global communities with excellence, integrity, and professionalism; and through its scholarship and service strives to contribute to the development of the Law, and a more just society. Also, she mentioned the positive expectations about the next NUC accreditation coming up soon for the College.
