Bayer Leverkusen, the reigning Bundesliga champions, have provided an update regarding the health of Nigeria’s Victor Boniface after he was involved in a car accident in Germany. The Super Eagles striker escaped unharmed from the incident on Sunday, shortly after he helped secure a 2-1 victory for his team against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Boniface expressed his gratitude, stating, “God is the greatest” and “God says my time hasn’t come.”

According to German tabloid Bild, Boniface was not driving but was a passenger in a vehicle that collided with a truck. The accident occurred on the A3 highway between Bad Camberg and Idstein while he was en route to Frankfurt Airport to pick up friends after a training-free Sunday.

“The striker was not behind the wheel himself; he was just a passenger,” the report confirmed.

Authorities revealed that the accident happened when the driver lost control of the car due to fatigue, leading to the vehicle skidding from the middle lane into the truck and overturning.

Bayer Leverkusen reassured fans, stating, “He is fine,” as Boniface sustained only minor injuries to his hand. Both he and the driver were treated at the hospital and have since returned safely to Cologne.

One of the photos Boniface shared showed him looking into the camera while revealing a bloodied arm, underscoring the seriousness of the crash.

His safe recovery has brought a sense of relief to supporters and the football community, given his pivotal role in Leverkusen’s impressive performance this season. The club hopes to have him back in action for their UEFA Champions League away game against Brest on Wednesday.

This week has been particularly eventful for Boniface, who experienced a chaotic trip with Nigeria’s national team to Libya the previous Monday, enduring over 15 hours stranded at a remote airport, which forced the Super Eagles to boycott their matchday 4 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
