Air Peace Raises Lagos-Abuja Ticket Price to N200,000 Starting November

Written by on October 22, 2024

Air Peace will increase the cost of a one-way ticket from Lagos to Abuja to N200,000, Effective from November 1, 2024. This significant price hike comes as the airline grapples with Nigeria’s deteriorating economic conditions, which have severely impacted the aviation sector, prompting fare increases and causing many passengers to seek alternative modes of travel.

A review of ticket prices across domestic airlines shows that Air Peace now offers the highest fare for this route, with other airlines such as Aero charging between N94,000 and N109,000, Arik Air ranging from N104,405 to N139,292, and Ibom Air quoting fares between N124,000 and N133,000. These rising costs have left numerous passengers stranded at airports, unable to afford or secure flights.

The Lagos-Abuja route, one of the busiest in the country, has been particularly affected, with many travelers struggling to find available seats. An official at Air Peace, speaking anonymously, attributed the fare hike to the country’s worsening economic climate. The official noted, “If you buy a ticket and see the breakdown, you will discover that we are bleeding as an aviation company and even the prices of running the business are almost getting out of control. Just as we all know, all these killing taxes go to the government, and businesses especially airlines have been left with no choice other than to do this, it is what it is.”

Attempts to reach the airline’s Chief Operating Officer, Toyin Olajide, for further comments were unsuccessful.

A regular traveler, Adeleke Aina, expressed frustration over the continuous rise in airfares, stating that if the trend continues, he may be forced to opt for road transport instead of flying. “This is killing everything, fuel has turned into what it is and the Federal seems unconcerned with this abnormality. I fear for this country,” Aina remarked.
