Operatives of the Imo State Police Command successfully thwarted an attack on the Njaba Divisional Headquarters by suspected IPOB and Eastern Security Network members on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of three attackers and the recovery of weapons and vehicles.
In a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, the attackers arrived in three SUVs, opening fire on the station. However, the police operatives quickly defended the station, resulting in the death of three attackers, while others, wounded, fled into nearby bushes.
The police recovered a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), an AK-47 rifle, and three vehicles: a Toyota Lexus 470, a Mercedes GLK, and a Toyota Venza.
Okoye also disclosed that the state Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, is leading an intense operation to track down the fleeing suspects. He praised the officers for their bravery and reassured the public of the command’s ongoing efforts to maintain security in the state.
Earlier this month, gunmen killed two vigilante members and a police officer in Isiala Mbano and set the Obowo Police Station ablaze in a separate attack.
