The Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wasilat Adegoke, declared on Monday that the state will be represented by more than 250 athletes and 58 officials at the 2024 National Youth Games. This event, organized by the Federal Ministry of Sports, is designed for under-15 athletes from across Nigeria.
Addressing the team before their departure at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Adegoke explained that Oyo will compete in the 8th edition of the National Youth Games, taking place in Asaba, Delta State. The competition features 28 sports, including various ball games.
“Over 250 athletes and 58 officials from this state will participate in the games,” Adegoke stated.
The commissioner urged the athletes to conduct themselves well and avoid behavior that could tarnish the state’s reputation. She also encouraged them to strive for gold medals in all events.
Adegoke praised Team Oyo for their recent success, highlighting their first-place finish in five team sports at the Zonal Elimination for Ball Games held in Osogbo, Osun State.
