Ayobami Suberu, Branch Controller of the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) for Ogun State, has strongly refuted an online media report alleging that results for some public school students were withheld due to the state’s purported financial arrears. According to a statement from Lekan Adeniran, Chief Press Secretary to the Ogun State governor, Suberu addressed these claims during a press briefing on Tuesday.
Suberu described the report as “mischievous and unbalanced,” emphasizing that Ogun State is not indebted to WAEC. He explained that the delay in releasing certain results is due to a technical issue, not financial reasons. The exam body had already released the results for 93.9 percent of candidates, totaling 1,685,889, on Monday.
The branch controller assured that efforts are underway to resolve the technical problem swiftly, with communication ongoing between WAEC’s branch and the Head of the Test Administration Division. Suberu expressed frustration with the reporting practices and reaffirmed that the results would be released by the end of the day. He stressed that Ogun State’s alleged indebtedness is a falsehood and called for more responsible journalism.
