Four Dead in Boat Accident in Sokoto State

A boat accident in the Dundaye community of Wamakko Local Government Area (LGA), Sokoto State, has resulted in the deaths of four individuals.

Alhaji Aliyu Kafindangi, Head of the Sokoto Field Operation Office for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday. He stated that the accident occurred on Sunday evening.

Kafindangi detailed that a joint rescue operation involving NEMA, the Nigerian Red Cross, Fire Services, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and local divers led to the recovery of the bodies on Monday.

“Based on investigation, 24 persons were involved in the incident, but 19 of them have been rescued,” Kafindangi said. “One dead body was recovered on Sunday and yesterday we recovered additional three, bringing the number of deaths to four. One person is still missing, but search and rescue is still ongoing.”

The NEMA official expressed appreciation for the support provided by the state and local governments, as well as the community, which has been instrumental in the success of the rescue efforts.
