Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Touch Down in Nigeria for Invictus Games Promotion Tour

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have touched down in Nigeria for a 3-day tour dedicated to promoting the Invictus Games.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in Nigeria after boarding an overnight British Airways flight bound for Abuja. The royal couple’s visit to Nigeria comes at the invitation of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, with a focus on engaging with wounded soldiers.

Director of Sports at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis, highlighted that Prince Harry, the founder of the Invictus Games, is slated to spend three days in Nigeria, interacting with wounded soldiers and their families.

Marquis emphasized that the visit, scheduled from May 10th to May 13th, 2024, aims to support wounded soldiers in their recovery efforts, with a notable positive impact already observed among participants.

Their journey faced a slight delay due to the unexpected illness of the scheduled pilot, requiring a quick replacement, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Upon their arrival in Nigeria, the royal couple was greeted by Nigerian officials at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, just before 5 am local time. They were escorted discreetly from the airport onto a waiting minibus.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, a defense spokesperson, shared with the Daily Mail that the couple would have time to rest after their journey before embarking on their first engagement at midday at the Defence Headquarters.

Following their initial engagement, Prince Harry and Meghan are set to travel to Kaduna to visit wounded soldiers at a military hospital before returning to Abuja for additional engagements.

This marks the first joint visit to Nigeria for the royal couple, representing a significant opportunity to further their advocacy efforts for wounded veterans and the Invictus Games initiative.
