Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are set to arrive in Nigeria on Friday for a three-day private visit. Their visit comes at the invitation of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, with a focus on interacting with wounded soldiers.
Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis, Director of Sports at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), disclosed this information on Thursday. Prince Harry, known for founding the Invictus Games, will spend three days in Nigeria, engaging with wounded soldiers and their families.
Marquis highlighted that the visit, scheduled from May 10th to 13th, 2024, aims to support the recovery efforts of injured soldiers. He emphasized the positive impact the visit will have on the soldiers’ self-esteem, mental health, and emotional well-being, as well as on their families.
The couple is expected to arrive on Friday and will be received with a quiet reception due to their long travel time. They will then rest at the hotel before meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff later in the day.
Following their visit to the Chief of Defence Staff, Prince Harry and Meghan will visit the Wuse Light Academy, an institution supported by their NGO. They will then proceed to Kaduna State to visit the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, where wounded and injured soldiers receive medical care.
On Saturday morning, a volleyball match between the CDS team and the Duke’s team will take place at the Armed Forces Officers Mess. This match aims to engage with wounded and injured soldiers through sitting volleyball. Later in the day, a reception will be held for the couple to interact with families of wounded and deceased soldiers, as well as service members.
On Sunday, the couple will pay a courtesy visit to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State. They will also visit a basketball court supported by their NGO, where a basketball exhibition match will be held. A reception is planned for Sunday evening before their departure from the country on Monday.
