Several individuals sustained injuries during overnight attacks by Ukrainian forces in and around the western Russian city of Belgorod, officials and the military confirmed on Thursday.
Vyacheslav Gladkov, the regional governor, disclosed that multiple apartment buildings and houses were damaged during the assault.
“The city of Belgorod and Belgorod district were subjected to an air attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. There are direct hits on residential apartment buildings and cars,” Gladkov said on the messaging app Telegram. “According to preliminary information, eight people were injured: seven adults and one child.”
Five people, among them an 11-year-old girl injured by shrapnel in her foot, were taken to hospitals for treatment, while the other three received medical care at the scene, he explained.
Belgorod city witnessed significant damage, with 19 apartment buildings, one private residence, and 37 vehicles affected, as stated by Gladkov. Additionally, in the nearby Dubovoe area, four homes and three cars were impacted by the attacks.
Being close to the border, Belgorod frequently faces Ukrainian drone attacks, with a recent incident occurring on Monday resulting in six fatalities and 35 injuries.
Ukraine’s recent assaults on Russian territory have been increasingly aimed at energy facilities.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that Belgorod was targeted by Ukrainian RM-70 Vampire multiple rocket launchers overnight, noting the downing of 15 rockets and a drone.
Moreover, the ministry revealed that two other drones were intercepted in the Bryansk region, bordering Ukraine, with no casualties or damage reported. Similarly, three additional drones were neutralized in Kursk.
In a separate incident, the Russian military reported a Ukrainian drone attack overnight on a fuel depot in Yurovka village, located in the Krasnodar region near the Crimean peninsula. The Crimea region was annexed by Moscow in 2014.
“About six drones were destroyed but many fell on the complex. As a result, a fire broke out and several reservoirs were damaged,” stated the chief of staff in the Krasnodar region.
