Former Ebonyi State Governor, Senator David Umahi, expressed his joy as he was conferred with an honorary doctorate by Ebonyi State University, highlighting the rare gesture of honour from his successor, Governor Francis Nwifuru.
Umahi, currently serving as the Minister of Works, conveyed his appreciation to the media after the ceremony in Abakaliki, emphasizing the significance of being continually honored by one’s successor.
Acknowledging the usual tensions between governors and their predecessors in other states, Umahi attributed the harmonious relationship in Ebonyi to divine intervention and the wisdom demonstrated by Governor Nwifuru. He remarked, “That is the handwork of God and I am grateful to him and the governor.”
Expressing admiration for Governor Nwifuru’s leadership, Umahi praised his successor for fostering peace in the state and ensuring its steady progress. He likened Nwifuru’s governance to that of Solomon, affirming his pride and satisfaction in the continuation of his initiatives.
Umahi extended gratitude to Ebonyi State University for the honour bestowed upon him and fellow awardees, pledging continued support for the institution’s development. Recognizing the university’s achievements under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor and management, Umahi expressed pride in the institution’s accomplishments.
He concluded by affirming his commitment, along with other awardees, to provide substantial support to the university, acknowledging the significance of collective efforts in advancing education and development.
