Police Arrest Yahaya Bello’s Female ADC and Security Details Amidst Controversy

In a recent development, a female police officer who served as the aide-de-camp (ADC) to former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has been apprehended and detained by the Nigeria Police Force. This arrest extends to other police officers who were part of Bello’s security detail.
The arrest stems from suspicions that these officers may have aided and abetted Bello’s evasion from security operatives who had surrounded his Abuja residence in an attempt to effect his arrest. This incident follows a directive issued by the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, ordering the immediate withdrawal of all officers attached to Bello, after he disappeared from his Abuja home.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had besieged Bello’s residence, declaring him wanted and urging the public to provide any information regarding his whereabouts. However, the Commissioner for Information in Kogi State, Kingsley Fanwo, refuted claims that Governor Usman Ododo had assisted Bello in evading arrest.
Fanwo emphasized Ododo’s commitment to upholding the law, asserting that the governor did not facilitate Bello’s departure from his residence. He described the EFCC’s allegations as misinformation, highlighting that Bello is not attempting to evade arrest but is protected by a court injunction safeguarding his fundamental rights.
The commissioner challenged the credibility of the anti-graft agency’s claims and reiterated Ododo’s adherence to the rule of law and the constitution. He emphasized that Bello’s whereabouts are not a mystery, citing the state high court injunction as legal protection against harassment by the EFCC.
