Tinubu Urges National Assembly to Minimize Summoning of MDAs for Smooth Operations

Written by on March 21, 2024

President Bola Tinubu has appealed to the National Assembly to exercise restraint in summoning heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) before parliamentary committees. Tinubu made this appeal during the breaking of the Ramadan fast in Abuja, alongside Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and the House leadership.

While emphasizing the importance of oversight in maintaining transparency and accountability, Tinubu cautioned against excessive summoning of officials, which he believes could disrupt operations and hinder service delivery.

Tinubu urged lawmakers to exercise discretion in their oversight functions, recognizing the primary duties and responsibilities of each agency. He suggested that while oversight is essential, it should not overly burden or distract officials from their core mandates.

In a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, titled ‘President Tinubu Appeals To National Assembly: It Is Within Your Rights To Summon Heads Of MDAs, But Let Them Do Their Job,’ Tinubu reiterated the importance of allowing MDAs to fulfil their obligations while acknowledging the authority of the National Assembly.

Tinubu expressed confidence in the National Assembly’s ability to uphold good governance and lauded the existing cordial relationship between the executive and legislature. He highlighted the expeditious passage of bills aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians as a testament to this collaboration.

Furthermore, Tinubu urged legislators to remember their constituencies and extend compassion to the less privileged, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. He emphasized the collective sacrifices made for the betterment of Nigeria and called for continued dedication to national development.

Tinubu concluded by thanking members of the National Assembly for their contributions and reiterated the importance of working together for the progress of the country.
