President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly denounced the recent attack on military personnel in Delta State, emphasizing that those responsible for the heinous act will face the full force of the law.
Last Thursday, a tragic incident unfolded as Nigerian army personnel, including high-ranking officers and soldiers, were ambushed and killed by youths during a peace mission in Okuoma, Bomadi LGA of Delta State.
Expressing his condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers, President Tinubu affirmed his commitment to ensuring that justice is served, stating, “The cowardly offenders responsible for this heinous crime will not go unpunished.”
In a statement issued on Saturday, Tinubu paid tribute to the bravery and patriotism of the fallen soldiers, emphasizing their invaluable contribution to national security. He asserted, “As a nation, we must constantly remember and honour all those who have paid the ultimate price to keep our nation safe, strong, and united.”
Highlighting the significance of the armed forces in safeguarding national sovereignty, Tinubu underscored, “Any attack on them is a direct attack on our nation. We will not accept this wicked act.”
Furthermore, Tinubu granted full authority to the Defence Headquarters and Chief of Defence Staff to ensure that those responsible for the attack are swiftly brought to justice. He reiterated his government’s unwavering commitment to achieving peace and tranquillity across Nigeria.
Similarly, presidential candidate Peter Obi of the Labour Party condemned the attack, labelling it as barbaric and unacceptable. He emphasized the need for empathy towards security personnel and advocated for enhanced welfare and compensation for their families.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also expressed condemnation for the killings, urging restraint in the military’s response while calling for the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
The nation mourns the loss of these brave soldiers and stands united in demanding justice for their senseless deaths.
