Tinubu Set to Launch Students Loan Scheme, Easing Education Access

Written by on March 11, 2024

President Bola Tinubu’s administration is set to introduce the Students Loan Scheme on March 14, 2024, aiming to provide financial assistance to indigent students pursuing higher education. The scheme, part of Tinubu’s reforms, aims to alleviate the financial burden on Nigerian families and young people.

The announcement, made by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, highlights the significance of the initiative amidst economic challenges faced by many Nigerians. The National Student Loan Programme is expected to address financial constraints hindering access to education for deserving students.

The Students Loan Law, signed by Tinubu in June 2023, paved the way for this initiative, establishing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund responsible for managing loan requests, grants, disbursement, and recovery. Despite previous delays in implementation, Tinubu’s administration remains committed to realizing the scheme’s objectives. By providing interest-free loans, the government aims to ensure that students can pursue their academic aspirations without financial barriers.
