Former officials of the Ogun State Ministry of Information and Strategy, including the past Commissioner, called to provide information on alleged financial mismanagement.

The Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption has summoned several former officials of the Ministry of Information and Strategy over suspected financial irregularities during the years 2021 and 2022.

Waheed Odusile, former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, along with former Permanent Secretary Mr. Abiodun Awere, and Director of Finance and Accounts Mr. Andrew Odukoya, have been called to testify before the committee. The summons comes in response to alleged financial mismanagement, including the handling of N92.9 million released from the governor’s contingency fund to supplement ministry expenditures. Odusile and the other officials are required to appear before the committee on Thursday, February 29, 2024, to provide further information on the financial activities of the ministry.

The committee also directed the Director of Finance and Accounts to explain the transfer of N2.51 million to individual accounts, which was deemed a breach of due process and financial regulations. Alhaji Waheed Adesina, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, assured the committee of efforts to address issues raised in the audit report, emphasizing the ministry’s commitment to accountability and transparency.

The committee requested the submission of the ministry’s up-to-date fixed asset register and detailed cash inflows and outflows to facilitate transparency and accountability.

The summons issued by the Ogun State House of Assembly underscores the importance of accountability in public financial management. Former ministry officials are expected to provide explanations and clarifications regarding alleged financial infractions during their tenure.
