The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Nigeria’s energy transition by facilitating the importation of clean energy technologies and strengthening institutional frameworks. Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum in Lagos, GIZ Country Director Dr. Markus Wagner—represented by Duke Benjamin—praised the Nigeria Customs Service for its pivotal role in implementing the Advance Ruling Systems, which has streamlined customs procedures and reduced clearance times for renewable energy equipment.
A newly launched handbook on import/export procedures for renewable and energy-efficient technologies was hailed as a significant milestone in improving cross-border trade efficiency. GIZ’s broader support includes technical assistance, capacity-building, and policy development—especially in rural mini-grid deployment and national energy efficiency standards.
The Federal Ministry of Power, through representative Ben Ayangegor, endorsed these efforts as vital to achieving Nigeria’s Vision 30:30:30, targeting 30 gigawatts of power by 2030, with 30% from renewable sources. The ministry urged the Finance Ministry to form a task force led by the Comptroller General of Customs to expedite renewable energy trade and regulatory processes.
Customs Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi, represented by Deputy Comptroller General Caroline Niagwan, confirmed the service’s collaboration with stakeholders to promote green energy imports and reduce fossil fuel reliance, aligning with Nigeria’s net-zero emissions goals.
