Sacred Alliance as Traditional Rulers and Clergy Champion Peace Initiative in Southern Kaduna

Written by on May 23, 2025

In a profound gesture of solidarity, traditional rulers from across Southern Kaduna have formally endorsed a far-reaching unity and peace initiative spearheaded by the Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association in collaboration with esteemed Islamic clerics.

The pivotal assembly, convened on Thursday in Kafanchan, drew monarchs, religious figures, and community elders from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds. Widely hailed by stakeholders as a seminal moment in the region’s history, the summit aims to cement enduring peace and catalyze sustainable development in a region long marred by ethno-religious strife.

Apostle Emmanuel Kure, Chairman of the Christian Leaders Association and convener of the summit, underscored the urgency of the initiative, noting its objective to fortify recent gains in stability and foster a unified vision for the future of Southern Kaduna. “We must rise above historical wounds and divisions if we are to shape a future worthy of our children,” he declared. “This is a moment for bridge-building and the restoration of trust.”

In a symbolic display of reconciliation, Christian and Muslim leaders stood in unison, with traditional authorities offering unequivocal support. The Emir of Jama’a, Alhaji Muhammadu Muhammadu II, and the Chief of Kagoro, Dr. Ufuwai Bonnet, speaking on behalf of the royal delegation, described the summit as both “timely and indispensable.” They affirmed their commitment to championing its goals, emphasizing the imperative of transcending partisan and ethnic boundaries.

“Our survival hinges on initiatives such as this,” the Emir asserted, while Dr. Bonnet urged all leaders to “stand as one people” in the pursuit of unity.

The summit also attracted key community influencers, many of whom expressed renewed hope that this engagement would herald a transformative era of intercommunal cooperation. Analysts regard the Kafanchan gathering as a decisive advance in institutionalizing peace mechanisms in the region.

As part of a broader strategic framework, the summit proposed the formation of routine interfaith dialogues and collaborative development councils. Participants further appealed to the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to extend robust support for the implementation of the resolutions adopted.

This convergence of religious and traditional leadership in a shared vision of peace marks a promising chapter in Southern Kaduna’s quest for harmony and progress.
