IGP Launches VIGISCOPE App for Rapid Emergency Response in Schools

Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has introduced the VGS—VIGISCOPE application, a cutting-edge emergency alert system designed to enhance safety and rapid response in schools across Nigeria.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, announced the app’s unveiling in a statement on Thursday 28th November 2024, following a two-day seminar held from November 26 to 27, 2024, which inaugurated the Safe School Protection Squad.

The VIGISCOPE app serves as a responsive alert tool linked to a central base in Abuja, enabling efficient coordination of emergency responses. According to Odutola

“It enhances technical intelligence in crime resolution and facilitates police access to difficult-to-reach areas, ensuring effective information sharing and threat detection. In the event of danger, students or school principals can connect to the central base via a smartphone to request immediate assistance or report incidents directly from the scene.”

Emergency Alert System: Users can send “rescue me” messages to notify the VGS central headquarters, prompting swift response coordination.
Internet-Enabled Accessibility: Schools in Ogun State and other areas with internet access can utilize the app’s features seamlessly.

Odutola emphasized the app’s transformative potential in ensuring school safety, stating that it allows schools to efficiently notify authorities of emergencies, enabling proactive and effective responses.
