The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has reported responding to over 1,367 incidents between January and October 2024, with road traffic accidents being the most frequent type of emergency.

Mr. Nosa Okunbor, the agency’s Head of Public Affairs Unit, shared the breakdown, noting that the agency attended to various emergencies across the state, including truck and tanker accidents, medical emergencies, fire-related incidents, and more.

During this period, LASEMA responded to a total of 141 incidents in January, 156 in February, and 148 in March. April saw 132 incidents, followed by 147 in May, 126 in June, and 123 in July. In August, the agency handled 121 incidents, while September saw 126 and October recorded 147.

Okunbor stated that road traffic accidents accounted for the highest number of incidents, with 50 vehicular emergencies. This was followed by 43 truck and tanker-related incidents, which included 35 accidents and 8 breakdowns. The agency also responded to 20 medical emergencies and 17 fire-related emergencies, which included fire outbreaks, a burnt vehicle, and a BRT incident.

The report revealed that Alimosho Local Government Area recorded the highest number of incidents in October, with 29 of the 147 total incidents in the state. Oshodi-Isolo followed with 20 incidents, while Ikeja and Kosofe reported 18 and 14 incidents, respectively.

Other areas such as Eti-Osa, Lagos Island, and Epe recorded fewer incidents, with Shomolu and incidents outside Lagos accounting for two each.

LASEMA also highlighted that since June 2019, the agency has responded to a total of 7,809 incidents across the state, emphasizing its role in managing emergencies and safeguarding lives. However, some areas, including Ajeromi-Ifelodun and Badagry, did not report any incidents during the period.

The agency’s response highlights the continued efforts of LASEMA in maintaining safety and responding to emergencies across Lagos, even as the state faces ongoing challenges with road traffic accidents, fire incidents, and medical emergencies.
