The Osun State Amotekun Corps has announced the arrest of Olalekan Hassan, a 27-year-old suspect, for allegedly engaging in multiple armed robbery operations in several communities across the state.

According to a statement released on Thursday by the Corps spokesperson, Idowu Yusuf, Hassan was apprehended following coordinated efforts based on credible intelligence. Prior to his arrest in Ila-Orangun, Hassan and his gang were said to have carried out a series of robberies in the towns of Ila-Orangun, Iree, and Ilesa.

“The suspect, who hails from Ile-Ife and resided in Ilesa, was arrested in Ila-Orangun and subsequently transferred to the state headquarters for further investigation,” Yusuf stated.

The Amotekun spokesperson disclosed that Hassan and his accomplices, armed with dangerous weapons including three pistols and a barrel gun, terrorized residents and stole valuables at gunpoint. “Hassan Olalekan and his gang are suspected to have been involved in several robberies and burglaries where cash, electronics, and other items were stolen,” Yusuf added.

Under interrogation, Hassan admitted his involvement in the crimes, revealing the names of three accomplices: Segun, Wale, and Adebayo, who remain at large.

Dr. Isaac Omoyele, the commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, described the arrest as a significant achievement in their ongoing efforts to curb crime in the state. “This arrest is a major breakthrough in our efforts to clamp down on criminal elements within Osun State,” Omoyele said. “We are committed to ensuring those who engage in such activities face the full force of the law.”

Omoyele also confirmed that the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry, and that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining gang members and recover stolen items.

The Amotekun commander emphasized the importance of community vigilance, urging residents to report any suspicious activities to authorities to help strengthen security efforts across the state.
